SpaceWorks, webMethods Ink OEM Alliance

EXCLUSIVE Rockville,
Md. - SpaceWorks Inc., which provides business-to-business (B2B)
sell-side e-commerce services to Global 2000 companies, and Fairfax,
Va.-based webMethods Inc. [NASDAQ:WEBM] have inked a revenue-sharing
original equipment manufacturing deal.
Spokespeople
for both companies told Washtech.com that financial details were
not being released. The partnership will let SpaceWorks clients
join in e-marketplaces and buy-side networks, while maintaining
their own e-commerce services with Web-order integrity through extensible
markup language (XML)-based integration.
Rockville,
Md.-based SpaceWorks will be reselling webMethods' B2B services,
SpaceWorks President and Chief Executive Officer Dave MacSwain told
Washtech.com. "It allows us to connect inside-the- firewall systems,"
he explained as part of the resell benefit.
SpaceWorks
specializes in customizing and selling order management systems
to large manufacturers such as GE Systems. But now, customers are
looking for deeper functionality than just order management, a SpaceWorks
spokesperson said, and the agreement with webMethods lets SpaceWorks
offer more services without having to transform into a larger software
company.
For webMethods,
the deal helps confirm its stature as a leading B2B services provider,
webMethods Co-Founder and Vice President of Product Marketing Charles
Allen told Washtech.com.
WebMethods
provides companies with integrated, direct links to buyers and suppliers,
connecting them to major B2B marketplaces and enabling real-time,
interactive communication through the Internet, regardless of existing
technology infrastructure. The company's "webMethods B2B" XML-powered
suite can automate business processes such as customer relations,
procurement and financial services, supply chain management, logistics
and sell-side-buy-side e-commerce.
WebMethods
has grown from 99 workers last July to about 300 current employees,
Allen said. Shares of webMethods closed down Thursday $8.69 to $233.69
apiece.
On Thursday,
SpaceWorks also announced the appointment of Christopher King as
chief financial officer and Clark French as vice president of engineering.
