SpaceWorks Announces Compatibility with The JAVA™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)

ROCKVILLE, MD -- April 20, 2000 -- SpaceWorks, Inc.®, the leading business-to-business sell-side Web commerce software company today announced that SpaceWorks Web BusinessManager Suite™ is compatible with the Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The Company also announced that it will migrate the application Suite to the J2EE platform in an upcoming version release later this year. SpaceWorks current e-Commerce solution anticipated a number of key architectural principles that comprise the J2EE platform and as a result, already maps closely to J2EE standards.

Upon J2EE compliance, SpaceWorks clients will be able to enjoy the numerous benefits of this emerging platform standard including the ability to run one common application server for all applications. J2EE compliance also will significantly increase interoperability with independently developed applications, enhancing seamless business processes. In addition, migration to the platform will reduce the costs to the client associated with the tailoring and future upgrades of SpaceWorks Web BusinessManager Suite. Migration to J2EE will enable SpaceWorks to remain focused on the continuing enhancement of its product Suite, while providing Global 2000 clients with the benefits of ongoing J2EE innovations.

SpaceWorks Web BusinessManager Suite architecture will utilize various J2EE platform technologies, including Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB)™, JavaServer Pages (JSP)™, Java™ Servlets, JavaBeans™, Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI), Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI)™, JavaMail™ API, Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) API, Java Messaging Service (JMS) and Java Transaction Service (JTS). This will enable SpaceWorks Suite to operate in any J2EE-compliant application server the client may standardize upon, saving the IT operation from the need to operate a variety of application servers. SpaceWorks plans to certify such leading application servers as BEA Weblogic® and IBM® Websphere™, among others.

"With J2EE, our clients will continue to benefit from improvements to application servers going forward, allowing SpaceWorks to turn full attention to adding more valuable B2B features and functionality to the Web BusinessManager Suite," says SpaceWorks President and CEO, Dave MacSwain.
