SpaceWorks Unveils New Module in Web BusinessManager Suite

SalesManager Enables Global 2000 Manufacturers and Distributors to Provide Complex Product Configuration Functionality

Rockville, MD -- February 5, 2001 -- SpaceWorks, Inc, a leading business-to-business sell-side Web commerce software company, today announced the commercial availability of a new application module within the SpaceWorks Web BusinessManager Suite that enables SpaceWorks clients to drive their Web-based selling processes through offering interactive guided selling capabilities to their business customers for configuring and purchasing highly-complex products.

SalesManager, the newest modular application, offers a complex configurator to assist business buyers in selecting and purchasing highly sophisticated, technical products such as aircraft engine components, computer systems and telecommunications equipment. Additionally, SalesManager drives the selling process by providing business buyers with a virtual sales representative function that guides them throughout the selection and buying decision process using a simple, interactive questionnaire. The buyers’ responses to the questionnaire generate recommended parts or product groupings for purchase that best meets their criteria. Buyers are fully empowered to explore various “what if” scenarios as they answer questions in a user-friendly, guided environment. In addition, the application immediately alerts the buyer whenever an invalid selection is made. Appropriate alternatives are provided to guide the buyer to a successful conclusion, resulting in valid, complete purchase combinations every time.

The Web BusinessManager Suite enables Global 2000 manufacturers and distributors to sell their products on the Web, and to expand that functionality over time through a set of modules that address multiple business processes that can be migrated to the Internet. The Suite automates all of the mission-critical activities involved in B2B selling on the Web. In addition to the new application module addressing complex selling, the Suite already delivers real-time order placement and management; business relationship-based personalization; online bill consolidation, presentment and payment; reporting and analytics; and full-time customer support.

“SpaceWorks clients selling highly-complex products will be able to ensure that the buying process for their business customers will be simple and swift in a self-service, Web environment,” said SpaceWorks President and CEO Dave MacSwain. “Through the guided interactive format, these customers will be able to speed through even the most complex product purchase, as if the seller’s best sales rep was assisting them throughout the process.”

By connecting to marketing information, this module can also automatically generate appropriate cross-sell and up-sell messages during the sales process. With each selection, complementary products and special offers can be recommended and displayed, thereby increasing the potential for a larger sales order.
