Intel Partners On E-Business App

By Ashlee Vance

Intel last week forged a partnership with electronic-commerce software vendor SpaceWorks Inc.to codevelop business-to-business, sales-to-order Internet applications by the fourth quarter. The software will be targeted at businesses that want to improve E-commerce systems with their direct and indirect sales channels.

Tapping into the sell side of E-business could be lucrative for Intel. The market for this software could reach $1.4 billion by 2002, says Forrester Research. Sell-side software includes order-management apps that provide businesses with more efficient order processing, lower transaction costs, and increased productivity. Intel is "assembling an investment portfolio along the lines of a venture-capital organization," says David Alschuler, an analyst with the Aberdeen Group.
